~ A Special Guest ~
© Christina Smith

Behold I stand at the door and knock
but will you let me in?
I come to you with a shower of
wonderful blessings ~
Your reward will not be silver or gold
but a treasure worth much more,
But will you answer me when I knock
or leave me at your door?

In prayerful thought you asked of me
to show to you my face
To feel my presence by your side
and the love of my embrace ~
You asked me humbly to reveal
the power of My Word,
But all day and night you wait for me
and I wonder if you heard.

When morning dawned there was a knock
and you woke grumbling
In pure annoyance you opened the door
to a man cold-canvassing ~
Selling something too obscure
to wake you at this hour
You made a comment a slammed the door
and went to have a shower.

Towelling off you heard the phone
ringing down the hall
Dripping when you answer it
to find a stranger called ~
"Sorry, wrong number" you abruptly said
and then put down the phone
But when she called a few more times
you let it ring alone.

Muttering in extreme annoyance
such an inconvenience
People invading on your time
as it if were an offence ~
Wanting to prepare yourself
for the visit of your Lord
You didn't want distractions that
would keep Him from your door.

The table laid in plenty
for lunch with your guest
Hoping He would like the food
you chose to be the best ~
When you heard a knock upon your door
and you ran excitedly
But was disappointment that it was
just child in front of thee.

"Please ma'am, I am lost from home
can you please help me?
Do you know where I live
and do you know my street?"
With hesitation you locked the house
and walked the child home
Then quickly raced back not to miss
the guest you await alone.

Peering at the clock you note
that time is getting on
You wonder what is taking Him
when at last you hear a knock ~
The smile disappears from your face
when instead you see a man
"I've locked my keys inside my car,
could you please lend me a hand?"

Irritated at the thought
that this could take away
From the time that you could spend
with the Lord today ~
But still you walk out in the cold
and fumble with the lock
With a strip through the car window
then suddenly up it pops.

Grateful the man thanked you
but anxious to get away
You hurried back into the house
as the hours ticked away ~
Putting the food back in the fridge
unable to hide
The disappointment that you feel
the Lord had passed you by.

When all at once you hear a voice
as a woman stood alone
Asking if you could spare some food
for her children back at home ~
Wanting to keep it for your guest
but the hour was getting late
You helped her carry all the food
in abundance to her place.

When you got back it was now dark
and the day had slipped away
You knew the Lord was not coming
though He had promised to today ~
As you prepared for bed that night
you sadly asked Him why,
Why did He not come to your door,
why did He pass you by?

"My child, but I did come to you
four times to your door,
Once I even called you up
but you chose to ignore ~
That woman searching for her friend
had the need to know
In her despair there was someone
and she was not alone.

"For I was the canvasser in the morn
waking you from sleep,
I was the old man who locked his car
along with all his keys ~
And I was even the child all alone
who had lost his way
I was even the mother needing food
who you had helped today."

"But Lord, I had expected You
to come here as Yourself,
I wanted so much to see You
but these strangers I couldn't tell ~
I didn't know that it was You
who came to me all those times,
I didn't know You kept Your word
by teaching me in kind."

"My child, I am everyone
everywhere you meet,
I am in the mothers and businessmen
and children on the street ~
I am the young girl in need of care
searching for a hope,
I am everyone and everywhere
and they too need to know."

Behold I stand at the door and knock
but will you let Me in?
I've come to bring the gift of love
and bountiful blessings ~
But when you see someone else
standing at your door,
Will you let them in and meet their needs
or will you just ignore?
Santa Does Exist
FoxY © Julie A. Strickland
Dec. 2005

My eight-year old revealed to me
A secret about Christmas Eve
He said Santa does not exist
He said Santa is make believe

The kids at school had told him this
And placed doubt within his young heart
I silently cried as I watched
His innocence breaking apart

I told him that I still believed
And would until the day I die
Because I know that Santa is real
Then I told him exactly why

Mommy is not working a job
Daddy’s Saturday hours are banned
The money coming in each week
Doesn’t always meet the demands

Yet each year when Christmas comes around
There are gifts beneath our tree
There’s hugs, laughter, and lots of love
And there is always food to eat

Santa Claus provides us with these
And many other blessings, too
Santa Claus is generosity
Personified through you!!

I believe that poetry
Is the grace of the written word
Whether it be written
or heard
It can be literal
or totally absurd!
It can be sweet
neat and petite
or can be a frightful treat
It can flow and move
go and groove
but poetry
no matter what form
light, dark
cheery
or dear to the heart
It always
Creates a link
to ones imaginative spark!
WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD
(George Weiss / Bob Thiele)

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Oh yeah
The Way We Were

Memories light the corner of my mind.
Misty water color memories
Of the way we were.
Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind,
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were.
Can it be that it was all so simple then,
Or has time rewritten every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again,
Tell me? would we? could we?
Memories may be beautiful and yet,
What's too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget.
So it's the laughter
We will remember,
Whenever we remember
The way we were;
The way we were.
Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Somewhere, over the rainbow, way up high.
There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby.

Somewhere, over the rainbow, skies are blue.
And the dreams that you dare to dream
really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up
where the clouds are far behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops,
Away above the chimney tops.
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere, over the rainbow, bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow,
Why then - oh, why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow,
Why, oh, why can't I?
The Star-Spangled Banner

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Inspired and Guided: A space of reflectionMy Dementia Pages:  Early Onset

Imagine sitting
In a graceful canvas
Hidden away in a timeless land
Surrounded by delicate trees in a quite bloom
Blooming trees that dance
With a calm soft ivory, a pale pleasant pink, and a glowing red
The colors of apple blossom trees.

Imagine sitting amongest the trees
Feel the world of dreams
This field breaths in reality with the brezze
It exhales the world of dreams that florishes around you
This place in time, yet not in time
Breaths out it's own world of reality
Tranquility softens the falling blossoms

Imagine sitting in the middle of such peace
Feel it flow easily through your body
Let it gentle caress you
Don't let your world reach you here
Melt into the dream of apple blossoms
That fall like feathers to the ground
THE BUTTON BOX
Linda J. Vaughan

How well I remember my childhood days
And the times when I was allowed
To play with the “button box” ~
It made me feel so proud.

Hundreds of buttons were kept inside
And buckles from shoes I had worn.
All sorts of colours and shades
And snippets of fabrics torn.

Tiny baby buttons from a jacket
Worn from the very start
Of a life that was cherished,
And whose memory was kept in heart.

Buttons from tiny leather shoes
Fashioned in palest blue.
Much much larger buttons
Every shade and every hue.

Buttons from a Sailor Uniform
All metal and shining bright.
Buttons from my Grandfather’s shirt
Very small and very white.

Leather buttons from a jacket
Which had been hand knitted.
Buttons taken from some dresses
When they no longer fitted.

More than buttons in a box
These are memories and treasures fine,
And I was fortunate indeed
That these treasures became mine.

I have the family button box
And my own children have played
With the very same buttons,
And I am glad the memory has stayed.

They have been a maths lesson
In sorting, counting and sizing
And I knew that here was a treasure
That I should be prizing.

There is a familiar and musty smell
Of age and metal and more.
Here is a lifetime of memories
And it’s good to peep through the door.

To see our lives by the buttons we wore
When we were younger and much more aware.
When we saw life as an endless day
And we had hardly a single care.

To see the clothes and remember
The times and places we knew
To look and to see the “Button Box”
As a valued friend so true.

"A Woman"

This is written in the Hebrew Talmud, the book
where all of the sayings and preaching of
Rabbis are conserved over time.

It says: "Be very careful if you make a woman
cry, because God counts her tears.  The woman
came out of a man's rib.   Not from his feet to be
walked on.   Not from his head to be superior, but
from the side to be equal.   Under the arm to be
protected,  and next to the heart to be loved."

Pass this on to all exceptional women that you know..
and to men so they know the value of a woman.

Honesty
  Billy Joel

If you search for tenderness
It isn't hard to find
You can have the love you need to live
But if you look for truthfulness
You might just as well be blind
It always seems to be so hard to give

CHORUS
Honesty is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue
Honesty is hardly ever heard
And mostly what I need from you

I can always find someone
To say they sympathize
If I wear my heart out on my sleeve
But I don't want some pretty face
To tell me pretty lies
All I want is someone to believe

CHORUS

I can find a lover
I can find a friend
I can have security
Until the bitter end
Anyone can comfort me
With promises again
I know, I know

When I'm deep inside of me
Don't be too concerned
I won't ask for nothin' while I'm gone
But when I want sincerity
Tell me where else can I turn
Because you're the one that I depend upon

IMAGINE
John Lennon1940 - 1980
10/01/1981
4 weeks at #1 - 24 weeks on chart

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
